• Running DOS door games in Linux

    Hello all!

new Synchronet sysop here. Just getting back into running a BBS.

I'm thinking of running Synchronet in Linux and using DOSEMU to run old DOS doors like LORD, TW2002, BRE, etc.

I looked at the Synchronet wiki for setting up doors in Linux, but it's a bit confusing.

Anybody successfully set up doors in Linux (RH, Ubuntu, etc.) willing to share how they did it, (example: LoRD) would be appreciated. Like a screen shot of the SCFG and maybe any batch files used.

    Thanks!

Firstly, a JavaScript port of LORD is included with Synchronet - no DOSEMU needed for that one.

Secondly, running DOS doors on Linux isn't too hard once you have DOSemu setup: https://wiki.synchro.net/howto:dosemu

And yes, a lot of Synchronet sysops have done so successfully. There's usualy nothing special for the configuration (same for Linux/DOSEMU or Windows) and you could even use the automated external program setup scripts/.ini files included with Synchronet to do so.

Does the JS LORD support all the LORD add-ons that were made for the original LORD?

Some people like playing LORD 2 and having a completely data-compatible port to JavaScript is quite an accomplishment.

well if it's a duh, then why do you say but lord 2 js does.

yeah, seth made it easy to do so. again, i think this is part of his team practicing for dink smallwood because lord2 and dink have external data files and scripts. you could probably make a js dink smallwood.

I don't really enjoy it as much as the original but agree that is an accomplishment. I am glad to see any of the old games ported over to JS
    and available with Synchronet. Thanks!
