Re: Help with ANSI and file uploading.

Hello! I'm new to BBSs (I set one up for fun), and I've always had a fondness for older technology. That being said, while most of the BBS I've set up is straight forward in terms of setup, there are a few issues I'm having. I want to apologize if I come across as a noobie, and in fact if there was one place that answered all my questions and more (I can't seem to find any answers on the wiki)\
1. When trying to upload a file, I get an "error 2: file not received".
The full, complete error message would be helpful.
There's nothing else accompanying the error.
Nothing in the log output on the server?
I'm using SyncTERM to upload
files, and I've changed the upload/download directories in the settings, but I still get the same error.
What transfer protocol are you using in SyncTERM? Does the BBS/server side report running the transfer protocol driver (e.g. sexyz) to receive the file? Do you see the actual file transfer progress status reported in SyncTERM?
In SyncTERM, for each BBS/connection, you can configure a log file that can contain details about file transfer (success or failure). Try setting these options and examining the log file:
Log File c:\temp\syncterm.log
Log Transfers All (Debug)
The BBS runs on a Linux VPS running Debian and
my main computer runs Elementary OS 5.1. How do I properly upload a file to my BBS?
Sounds like you might be doing the right thing. Hard to tell with the amount of detail you've given. Have you tried uploading to *any* (other) BBSes yet? Were you successful?
2. As an aspiring graphics designer I would like to design my own art for the BBS, but I'm not sure where to start. I found where the ANSI files are, and I found an ANSI generator online, but that generator doesn't seem to match the files in my server. Is there somewhere I can learn how to design ANSI specifically for Synchronet? In addition, I've noticed many people have color ANSI profile pictures. But the profile picture shows no instructions on how to make the ANSI blocks colored. How do I change the color of my ANSI blocks in the profile picture editor?
Do you mean user Avatars? Those are documented here, on the wiki:
http://wiki.synchro.net/module:avatars
PabloDraw is recommended for creating or modifying ANSI art files:
http://wiki.synchro.net/resource:ansi_editors
Again, sorry if I come across as a noobie, but if anyone is willing to put that aside and answer my questions that would be much appreciated.
No problem.
