Right? I know its crazy... Debian wont boot, it installs then
will not boot to desktop.. Its a bios or driver thing from what I
have been reading.. I could not find anything to allow debian, I
did get unbuntu to install and I was able to get SBBS compiled
and installed, not my preferred distro but its a start I suppose.

What do you mean by "doesn't support Linux"? Are there no drivers for
the hardware, or can you not even install Linux on it? I'd be surprised, because I worked at Intel until recently, and the team I was on was

Greetings All,
I am putting up a SBBS system, I bought an intel nuc10 and to my surprise it doesnt support linux..bummer. So I have two questions 1) has anyone successfully installed linux on a NUC newer than series 7? 2) whats your opinion on running SBBS through WSL2? Would it work well?

I agree it sounds crazy, but even on intels own nuc site it says that this and certain nuc's past 7th edition I think only have support for win10 specifically 64bit you cant even install 32 bit it wont boot or install it..
I was shocked... would not have bought had I known.
Are you sure about that? Just because it doesn't support 32-bit Windows doesn't mean it can't boot Linux.
That was just to demonstrate how limited it is, I succesfully installed debian (so I thought) but it wouldnt boot.. I cannot find anyone who has successfully installed it on a nuc series 8 or newer.

Weird.. I was actually thinking of replacing my BBS machine with a NUC.
I currently have Linux running on that machine (with my BBS running in a Windows VM). I guess I won't be buying a NUC to replace it now..

Did you not see my post in this thread regarding "UEFI" and the partition it requires...?
I almost guarantee that's the only "problem" here.
How does it 'not support linux'?? Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm
??? But first, lets get you beyond that 'can't install linux' problem....

What's a NUC?

Oh, OK. those are kindda cool. I was just gonna pipe in that I moved my board to a Ubuntu box on my father-in-laws "old" dell i5 desktop that
he didn't want for some silly reason. Stripped it down to an ssh login shell, and I am lovin it. I'm considering dropping in some kind of
storage that doesn't use a ton of energy. I also got Foundry VTT
running on it which I'm also lovin. OK, back to you guys.

OK, so I made another attempt with debian just now, I did some reading and people seemed to suggest uefi setup for the nuc.

Why dont you put ESXi on it, then you can have as many linux's as you like.

Your genius! This is a great way around this nonsense... You are also correct in that a quick google search I found someone who put together
a page to make a custom iso for my particular NUC with all the gotcha's worked out!! Thanks again for the recommendation!
Endless VM's on my NUC!
I like to see small form factor and single board computers finding their place
in people's labs or workspaces. Other than a special low latency guitar ampl
ifier simulator app, most of what I need can run on a sbc or sff system.
