Ok. I am useing one of Marisa's free shared servers. I tried to update from cvs. Somehow it reset the bbs back to default values (My BBS) for the name etc. So first question is what did I do wrong that caused that?
It sounds like you cvs-updated your ctrl directory. Don't do that!
The correct update instructions are here:

Restored from backup and it fixed that but now things get interesting. When I logon to the board everything is there. But when I run SCFG its lost everything except for dovenet. All my other networks address's, other QWK hubs, message areas etc are gone. So 2nd question is why the networked msg areas and file areas show up on the BBS but not in SCFG?
Either the BBS hasn't be recycled or you have 2 copies of your configuration files (2 "ctrl" dirs) and when you run SCFG, it's pointing to one and when you run sbbs, it's reading from another. Proper use of the SBBSCTRL environment variable will cure that.
And the last part of my problem. When I shell and run echocfg or tickitcfg.js the screen on my end turns blue and has random characters everywhere so I cant see what Im doing.
Any ideas why?
Terminal settings likely. Try running "echocfg -id" for dumb/door mode instead if you can't get curses (-ic) or ANSI (-ia) modes working for you.
