Early on after I first joined, there was traffic but only in certain
areas. Others were always dead. It was similar to PiNet... lots of traffic for a brief while then *poof* it went dead.
The other thing about his nets... Like tons and tons and tons of dead
echos.
Atari Stuff for Monday
Atari Stuff for Tuesday
Atari Stuff for Wednesday Morning
Atari Stuff for Sunday after Church
(multiplied by every system Atari ever made)
Otherwise, I get your point, and it is funny. :) There are some
other networks like that... ones that would have benefited in their
infancy if the NC had created a few, more general echoes instead of a
whole bunch of very specific ones.
But then one day, this guy goes on some rant over something I can't
really remember right now and I was like "ok, I'm just going to walk away slowly".
But Retnonet seems It will come back as soon as possible :-)
I hope!!!

Too bad there's no "official" way to depreciate it. Also, I wonder
what actually happened..

Hope so too, never fun to lose access to something.

Do you have more info on this? I'd love to host RN again
Oh, well the incident I mentioned was years ago and was some political rant thing.
But not really talking about "deprecating" it so much as "please don't resurrect it".
I am not great @ FTN, but I'd also help w/ 2oFB in any way I can... we're all getting here; how functional is the FTN as is?
That said, we can just get some new echos created here if Paul is
onboard, I'm easy either way.

don't resurrect it".
Isn't that what "deprecate" means?
It's more retire, rather than don't resurrect which would imply to me its already retired :)
Does this just need a new home? I know several place's with server
space. What would it take to move it? PC wise. As long as it wouldn't take more than a 4 core 8 gigs of ram and 120G of space I could get
space for it.
So I'm happy to host another network - that's kinda why Im building clearing houz, so it would be easy to do.
I've done it before, for sportnet and scinet, which many folks wanted brought back to life, after the original ZC disappeared or went offline.

If you can bring back RetroNet, pInet, and CommodoreNet, all that Carlos ran, that would be great.. I am sure he would give you everything he has on it, I know he has been fighting health issues for a while now. The
sad part is they are all completely dead now, nothing passes at all..
His BBS is still running, I think you might even be able to get in touch with him on Facebook.
At the detriment of a bbS having too many FTNs - I'd run them all on
2oFB - and help, if I can, with hub stuff when needed... with lots of help.

Please don't tell the good Commodore that he's funny - it only
encourages him...! :)

I actually meant funny peculiar and not funny ha-ha. :)
No.... that's not what it means.
In the same way that "killing" something isn't the same as "refusing to resurrect it".
Oh yeah? Just wait till you see what the TSA pulls you out of line for THIS year.

i'd be more inclined to tack more echos onto an existing net if i were doing it.. the catch 22 is mostly the same though.. for example, if you create an echo about car stuff, suddenly the huge 3 month long thread about cars dries up.. you can see the amount of traffic the retro area gets here and on fidonet. will a net with 10 echos of that further
broken out gain any traction? it seems it's died quite a few times already.
