Folks in the North Island of New Zealand have been having flooding
issues, near Taupo I think, but here it's a high of 23 Celcius today
and sunny blue skies.. Summer has almost arrived here albeit about 6-7 weeks later than usual.
None of the norms seem to be applying - most of our winters fall into El
Nino or La Nina, depending on the trends of the jetstream - one's an exceedingly wet winter, the other is a late, dry winter. We had a wet
one last year, this year may turn out to be a dry one. Worrisome, since California depends on snowpack runoff for their water, and Trump
released 2 billion gallons of water from central valley federal water
sources, ostensibly to address the fires in Southern California, hundreds
of miles away. The water never made it to SoCal and ended up flooding
already wet farming areas. We'll miss that water come summertime.
