my biggest new year's resolution is to stop lurking and
start posting on fsxnet and beyond. hi, i'm Nicky :).
Right. Participating (and by that I mean posting) is not hard.
We simply voice a small slice of our life to the public: a
random thought, an opinion, a discovery.
the other half of this resolution is to use twitter less.
ideally, not at all, but that's hard when it's useful to
find work.
Twitter for finding work? What kind of work?
I simply can't stand the way Twitter operates. But I can
appreciate it. Early in its introduction I compared it a ham
radio channel where people hang out until they hear something
or respond when they feel like it.
i really can't stand social media anymore though...
It can become an obsession with many people. :/ I know a few
people where the walled garden of Facebook is the ONLY access
point for the internet for news, entertainment, communications.
Perhaps it is because it's simple and familiar - always the
same.
It's the same thing with Instagram for others.
Or.. even this form of comms (echomail) is "the" social network
for yet some others.
Perhaps the device one uses governs which app or program one
prefers to use on a regular basis. Myself, my comfortable T60
hosts the FTN program I prefer for echomail: OpenXP.
(I built this site to promote it:
https://openxp.kolico.ca )
Only recently, I've tried Aftershock on my Blackberry and
another Android phone, and I like the transportable experience
and not being tied to the T60 for it all. Now, I'm trying to
find the workflow and the happy medium between them.
i like the smaller sense of community on BBSes & think it's
more worth pursuing. i'm even setting mine back up after it
crashed in July!
The BBS participant scene IS indeed a smaller community, that's
for sure. But it can feel larger if more people would actually
post and not lurk. :D
anyway, here's a toast to a bright and BBS filled 2023.
Cheers!
