I argue that the whole Entertainment industry is redundant at this point. We could consume classic books and movies no end and our lives would not be enough to consume all of the good material. We only consume new stuff because it loks more shinny and has more marketing power behind it.

I've heard it said that there are only 7 basic narrative plots in story telling, and any book, movie, etc. is just a variation of those plots.

Sometimes I like re-watching old movies & TV shows, especially if I hvaen't seen them in years.

For books, typically I read a book only once.

I'd argue that the magic of new content is how people take existing ideas and make it better. Like, long-running series building on the world, callbacks, subverting expectations <IN A CLEVER WAY>, etc.

Difficult to swallow but kind of true, unfortunately. Although there are new generations of creative people, but tech and tools advanced so far, that it doesn't require so much cunning, guts and talent to develop top quality. It's easy to become artist today, comparing to even 20 years ago... and all so called art or craft or whatever... in the age of consumerism... it's just trash commodity that just flies and goes.

I found that with music too. Although I'm sometimes very surprised it's easier to find endless volume of interesting music from the past than new releases.
