Do you have an external router device (e.g. cable or DSL "modem" with router functionality)? Perhaps it has a firewall built-in and is
blocking these ports. Or it could be your ISP blocking those incoming ports.

Yes, I do.
In a privious message I posted some screen captures links.
It's looking more and more like the ISP has some ports closed. This is
a new developement.
But if that's so, why do the links work for me?
http://bnb.synchro.net and bnb.dtdns.net both work fine here...
I sent Charter a message asking if the BBS ports are indeed closed and
if so, would they open them.

If "for me" means, from the same computer or from another computer on
your local network, the answer should be obvious: because your ISP
isn't involved in your local network.

I'm not sure where exactly "here" is.

They would know. :-)

From the same machine as the BBS sits on.
But doesn't the page call have to go out to a DNS machine and then back
to me? Unless there is a HOSTS file, that is. (There isn't one)
If I were using localhost as an address, I wouldn't expect it to even
need to be connected to the internet at all. (But that's not the case
either)
Clearly something is at work here that I don't fully understand.
Not always... It's one of them Right-hand Left-hand sort of companies.
I did get an acknowledgment from them... so far.

Yes, but all that does is resolve the hostname to an IP address. Your browser will then connect to port 80 on that IP address, which is the
same computer the server is on, so the ISP isn't involved.

need to be connected to the internet at all. (But that's not the case

Your ISP isn't blocking outbound DNS requests. That much is clear. But
has nothing to do with whether or not they're blocking inbound port 80 requests.

okay, i take it you're running DMZ now...
i scanned you and it says your port 80 and your email ports are
'filtered' AMONG others.
if you want a copy of this scan, grab me on irc, i wont be rude and
post the whole thing here [several pages]
Thanks, but I got the sad news already.

nmap is better. :D
OK I tracked it down... it needs to be compiled... MS VC is the tool
they recommend... VC requires XP or the like. ME isn't good enough...

Have you tried use non-standard ports then? Try setting up for port
8080 or something.
My router, for example, (Asante something) doesn't support it or port ranges for that matter. Maybe its time to look at something else. :)

As a matter of fact, I grabbed a copy of TinyWeb and tried 8080... no
go.
It all used to work. Charter (My ISP) has changed something recently.

It's only a hobby... it's only a hobby (muttering to self)
get xp.
OK but CD drive is KIA.
Yeah nmap is a lot better. Need cygwin or something to run it on a winbox tho. Might i suggest X-Scan? Creates a lot of noise if you're out looking fo sploits, but good if you're checking yourself or a friends security.

Maybe your ISP is blocking email ports.
