Just curious if anyone has done anything like this, or is interested
and capable.
I'd like to be able to search and browse a FTN-style nodelist of some sort. Or multiple nodelist files for several networks would be most
ideal.
Does anyone know if such a JavaScript module exists that could be used,
or if anyone's working on such a thing, or would be willing to take on this kind of project that could be used in a fairly modular way so that one could tie it into their email/netmail system to be able to look up
an address and show the node information so someone trying to send mail
to the destination can see and verify that it's going to where they'd expect?
I'd be curious to see such a thing, and I'm not, personally, yet fully capable of programming it, but I plan to as I get more in-depth into learning.

There already is a program called FNL-Scan that will do that but it's abandonedware and unregistered will only do one FTN network. I run it here but it does have a few short-comings.

Hmmm.. A program, unregistered, etc? This doesn't sound like JavaScript
at all, more like a door, which is not what I'm asking for at all. :)
I'm actually asking for a JavaScript, so that I could tie it in with my existing system that, during sending netmail to an obvious FTN style address, it can do a lookup and provide a summary.

do you actually have that much of a need for such a thing?
anyways, you could rig a script to wget the file, extract it and then grep+display text that the user requests.
i suggest you rig your bbs to run the door bill suggested, seems like less hassle that way and seems to do what you want.
also on the facebook fidonet group a guy posted a url to site that searches nodelists for text strings. you could always rig up something to scrape that.
i've been running bbses since 1992-93 and only had a few people ever send netmails, aside from myself.

Yes, actually. I wouldn't even ask if I didn't. This is actually a
standard, and VERY nice feature of Mystic BBS that is so neglected in BBS software, IMHO. Always has been, except to a select few BBS software.

Be in a NetMail message area, and send a netmail to an address, or at least start the process. Once you put in an FTN address, it'll look it
up and display the information for you about the record related to the
net address provided.

Here's a great webpage, you can enter the name of a Sysop and it'll list every node under that name. If you know the name of a Sysop you can
probably find their board history here...
