Been having trouble with my newslink.js. I'm a noob when it comes to synchronet, but I posted messages, got some response but still was getting an error with my newslink.js, even getting the latest one from cvs.
Went searching on EChicken bbs and was using his ecRead which made it easier to follow a thread and there I found something to try. The person having a problem was reporting a different issue, but what the heck.
So I did as suggested. I ran jsexec update.js. When that was done, shutdown the control panel and restarted and walla newslink works.
Starting at ground zero with this Synchronet is a sharp learning curve, so much information is out there, but not all. The Wiki that is setup is very useful to me, but knowing what jsexec does was not a piece of information I found there, though it may be, I just didn't find it or know about.
Anyways
setting up Synchronet has been a great experience. I have most everything, part of each setup of the board, games, connecting to other boards, getting Fidonet and Dorenet echos, mail etc all working. I have not done anything with the file area. I want to get the files from file distributin, using whatever Synchronet will work with. I need to research that now.
I think you've chosen the wrong message area for a Synchronet discussion.Yes, I did. Sorry about that, I thought I was in discussion but wasn't.
JSexec is a Synchronet utility. It's documented here: http://wiki.synchro.net/util:jsexecRemember I am using the 3.16 you announced and not 3.15 so there were no instructons for me to follow.
In this case, you were just using jsexec to "execute" (run) the update.js, which is only a handy fix-up for sysops that didn't follow the instructions in the Synchronet v3.15 readme.txt:

Can you recommend what works well with synchronet regarding getting files distribution from the filegate? I see some use Htick, but what else is needed for getting new files into sycnhronet.
So you didn't upgrade from an earlier version? The "update.js" fix-up would not be needed unless you upgraded from an older version of Synchronet.

That's corrrect. Out of the box I was getting an error about line 777. I posted a message about this and I was pointed to cvs and downloaded another one. Long story short, I probably messed things up and by using the update I was able to get it going. I am using the 3.16a that you announced in announcements for full install so I did.
!JavaScript D:\sbbs\exec\newslink.js line 777: TypeError: hdr.extra_headers is undefined
That was fixed after I posted the test setup.exe for v3.16. Running "jsexec update.js" wouldn't fix that error. You'd have to download the update from CVS (http://cvs.synchro.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/exec/newslink.js) into your Synchronet "exec" directory, that is all. The "jsexec update.js" fix-up should have no effect on a fresh installation using the setup.exe I posted.
