Cheers! Yeah Ezycom was massive in my neck if the woods, so it seemed fitting!
Been a struggle to make it play nice, but worth the efforr I think!

This is not right. This is not starnet. Neither is starnet any more.

Who says it's starnet?

He's probably referring to the (incorrect) Zone number 12 in the Origin line. That used to be the zone of the long-defunct StarNet.

Why is it incorrect?
I use zone 12 to supply dovenet to FTN nodes.

I think people who run the various FTN networks generally try to choose a unique zone number - they try to make it unique based on known zones of other FTN networks. If one network has a zone that's used by another FTN network, that would make it difficult for a BBS to be on both networks.
numbers and I never heard of 12 being used for something like that. Is
it even allowed to distribute DoveNet via FTN? What if StarNet was
still active - there would be two Zone 12 networks?
I remember this being discussed a long time ago, and I seem to recall that Rob didnt mind. If he does, and he contacts me, I'll action it as appropriate.
btw, i signed up a long time ago and i dont have permissions for anything. there's no way to contact the sysop via email as well.

I've never heard of starnet, so by definition to me, its unique.
Who says it's starnet?
Everyone who was a member of starnet probably.
I'm pretty sure it's not dovenet tho.
I doubt "I've never heard of it" is a good argument.. It would probably be prudent to check to see if that zone is in use first, either by checking to see what networks exist or by asking people.

Why?
Why?
So that you don't end up using the same zone number as another network..

I already use zone 1 and zone 10 (in addition to zone 12) - hasnt
affected anybody that I'm aware of. Have been doing it for years.
The blanket "you shouldnt use another zone of another network" is
probably only valid if you have a 4D mailer and/or a 4D mail tosser.
That would be the 1st question to ask.
Mine is 5D - so its not an issue.
And if a downstream user is already using a zone that clashes with me - and they can only do 4D, I'll work with them to figure out a workaround
- or they can get mail from somebody else.
I think the point that Nightfox (and others) are trying to make is....
WHY use a Zone number that is already widely known to be in use? What actual benefit does that provide you, when there are literally thousands
of other available (unused) Zone numbers?
