went through a renaissance. New Wave had really kicked in, and a local radio station cribbed KROQ's "Rock of the 80s" format and shook up a market that
was all rock, all the time.

There was a vibrant music scene in LA/SF back then - there was a weekly newspaper called BAM that covered the bay area music scene.

I need to go watch the Us festival on Youtube and relive some of those bands live. :)

One of my all time favorite radio stations was in Los Angeles probably a
couple years prior... KWST - K-West 106! I wish there was more of them on YouTube. London & Engleman probably the funniest morning duo of all time.
Some of their production work on promos was out of this world IMHO. I don't know what happened but I don't think they were given a fair shake to prove themselves. Granted they had stiff competition with KIIS/Rick Dees but I think if they stuck with it in time they may have done some damaged to KIIS. KROQ however is in a league all it's own... with KRTH.

A lot of TV hosts came from Califorina radio:
Bob Eubanks
Wink Martindale
Gary Owens
to name a few. I never did get to work in the #2 market of the USA. I only worked in Boston which at the time was #6 and NY which was #1. Styles were sooooo different between east/west coast radio. You can tell west coast radio has that "gnarly surf's up dude" chill to it where east coast is super high energy, almost like you're going to drop dead from a stroke presentation.

I'm a tad familiar with the scene there even though I'm in the northeast -

My high school beer experience was Moosehead beer and Rolling Rock.

Mine was coors. It was my beer of choice until I had it at 40k feet. The flavor was just all kinds of off and turned me off to beer in general for years after that.

Though now me drink of choice is Cider. Either Angry Orchard or Woodchuck. If I'm going for a wine, I'll take a nice Meade like Chaucer's any day.
