If anyone wants to get a glimpse of the place I've been staying at, my neighborhood was featured on Cops last night. LOL
Apparently, a suspicious person was spotted in an area a mile or two
down the road that's known for drugs. They chased him down Helbig
towards my area. The suspect turns a block over from my road, and
runs a good ways. You can actually see my apartment complex as they
turn the road.
There've been one or two other incidents of people running to this
area. I can kinda understand why... it's a low traffic area, very
wooded and several areas with quick turns to lose somebody. You could even get lucky with a train to cut off pursuers, movie-style.

Sounds like you live in a dangerous area.. Does it ever make you want
to move? :P

After dark, though, it can get a little loud some nights. Mostly
people blaring their radios, the occasional loud argument. I think
the Housing Authority recently brought in some fresh meat, however, as lately I have head some somewhat louder arguments and screams. I
haven't heard any gunshots in my part of the neighborhood lately,
though. Last night, I did hear a distant boom...it was too far away
to tell if it was a gunshot, some sort of explosive, or a closer car crash. Didn't hear any screech leading up to it, so I don't think it
was a collision.
That sounds worse than f'ing Beirut - I heard gunfire ONCE during my
6 month stay, and it was celebratory because a guy these other guys
was on TV.
And people think I'm nuts for moving there...

i live in what could be considered a somewhat dangerous city.
most the time the people that get shot or beat up have it coming
though. meaning they are shady and into drug dealing, etc and their own type of trash is giving them a taste of their own medicine.

You are nuts, but in a nice way.
If you think someplace is dangerous, I'd move.

Fun statistic for you, during the 1975-1990 civil wa
how many foreign civilians (i.e. not journos, soldiers
people on peace missions etc) were killed? 70. SEVENTY
In fifteen years. All sides in Lebanon realise killin
outsiders is bad PR so go out of their way to avoid it

So it's safer than my hometown, Phoenix Arizona... with the same
warning about discussing politics with the natives?

Well Beirut's kinda funny in that you have to figure out wha
faction the other guy belongs to and then express your suppor
for that cause, no matter what the hell it is. And some of th
causes are pretty batshit insane - SSNP, Syrian Socialst National
Party, their flag even looks like a Nazi flag, want to join wit
Syria under al-Assad, And they're Christians?!

That's much more complex than Arizona, where you're either a supporter of the Tea Party, or not.

I'm sure that's not the case in Phoenix.
In the UK, everyone loves him.

Oh so you don't have 17 officially recognized religious sects, each with a private army and mountain hideouts in Arizona
instead of being the Jesus Christ of TV, he was a womanizing, credit stealing, alcoholic. In other words, they examined his character, and discovered that he was a TV producer.
So we've examined Obama's character and discovered he is a politician. Shocking.

No, but enough Americans seem to have done so, twice...

well he's got the lying stuff down pat. but there's more to being a poilti than speaking well and lying. he cant get shit done, doesnt know how thin work and speaking with his lovely voice and playing the blame game only la for so long

that's not exactly how it works
What would you like him to get done? If Congress won't even pass a budget, they won't pass a budget. The latest nitwittery at least suggested that he was willing to stare them down.

Okay, I'll bite. Excactly how does it work?
He doesn't care if they pass a budget. They don't want to pass a budget, as if they did, they'ed have to pretend to adhere to it. They all, including him, are spending money foolishly, like drunken sailors. He doesn't want a budget passed any more than anyone, it would be too constrictive. Then when the Sh%^& hits the fan, he'll then blame it on congress for not passing a budget. watch...
the electoral college.
the future president needs 270 votes.
it's a messed up system. should go with popular vote [what most people belie elections are based on]
