New BBS door for Linux SBBS - VMS Empire.
A 2-player version of the classic strategy game. Compete against the computer. Fully supports save games so you don't have to finish in one sitting. You can get it from my sourceforge account at https://sourceforge.net/projects/vms-empire/
I installed the game on SBBS and it works great! Does anyone have any suggested tutorials on playing the game though? I dont many of the key commands.

What command line did you use in SCFG? I tried the one included in the
docs but the game does not start. Thanks!

You may also have to build the game. I made this mistake the first time. One way to test this is to go into the vms-empire directory. You should see a "vms-empire" executable. Try running it from the command line. If it fails or is missing, just build the project.

RATS! That is how I have it set up, too. I was hoping yours might be different.
I tested this myself and using those settings it worked for me. Maybe it is some character in your username? What is the username of the person you are playing as?

Dumas Walker, which has a space in it. I notice that both your username and minex's do not have spaces. If I were to send it the %-variable for "handle" (which is 8 characters, no spaces) instead of "username" (some of my users have spaces), I wonder if that would fix it?
I will have to try that when I next get a chance. Thanks for the idea!
The %a (lowercase 'a') value is automatically quoted by Synchronet if it contains a space. %A (uppercase) is not auto-quoted.
Or try removing the quotes from the command-line.

in my userid... Will have to update my configs..
I wound up using %3 (user number) instead of %a/A so I don't have to worry about the spaces. Now it works. Is there a way to get what is typed
echoed back to the user?
Just get it at https://sourceforge.net/projects/vms-empire/ right away and let
me know if it works...

I will give it a shot this morning and let you know. Thanks!
It seems to work fine. I have a couple of questions, though. If you are not familiar with the game, when it asks you what your city should make, how do you know what the possible answers are?
Also, if you accidentally hit 'A' for auto mode, how do you get out of it?

Also, if you accidentally hit 'A' for auto mode, how do you get out of it?Maybe ctrl-c. ctrl-d exits and saves your place.

Maybe ctrl-c. ctrl-d exits and saves your place.I figured it out.... (O)ut causes it to exit auto mode. :D

I am trying to learn this game also. Many of the commands in the online tutorials arent helping me :( ctrl-c or ctrl-d doesnt work. I end up just closing the bbs app. The game is open source, so I guess I can look at the code.

Once I had it in auto mode, I had to wait until it asked me a question. I was able to answer with an "H" for help, and that is where I found the "O" for out, which ended the auto mode. IIRC, to quit out of the game, I think the command is "Q".

Everytime I hit "Q", it moves my unit to the northwest. I assume I need to get out of movement mode, but I cant figure that part out, lol.
