We are back and proudly serving the BBS scene.
Please stop by at riverstyx.darktech.org and have a look around. The BBS
is just recovering from a crash, but many doors have been up and the file bases are growing.

make sure you backup! dropbox is free and it's easy to automate backups with dropbox or other services.
is just recovering from a crash, but many doors have been up and the file bases are growing.Hmm, strange place 200 doors, no windows, no lights. Just doors. Even in the attick, there's a door mounted at a 45 degree angle, right on the edge of the roof! You got to kick the door open, then climb up and jump off the roof to use the door! Why there's even a door inside the chimney! I thought that was an oven, but then noticed when I went to turn it on, it was another door! Why a man could starve to death there! Even the bed, which was quite comfortable, is a door! Seems to lead to hell, but none the less a door!

Yup..
I got it in the works.. I have never used DropBox. Is it reliable?

It's nice having the same files sync'ed to all your systems. For example, Google drive you can choose which folders you want to sync, so like my work computer only sync's a couple files for work purposes. I also synch my BBS terminal program so if I add a BBS to my listing, it updates the list on
all my systems.
Yeah, Cloud Storage, totally worth it.
if you use a special dropbox apk you get 50gigs free for 2 years.

I have a Box link for 50 GB free, if anyone wants them -- email at poindexter@realitycheckbbs.org or netmail me.
just post it here.
it's not a one shot deal, is it?
Yeah, Cloud Storage, totally worth it.
until it ends up missing.
but it's a good 2nd or 3rd choice to backup

Haven't had that happen yet, but since the files are saved locally the cloud could be considered backup #2, but the files on my system are far from valuable.
My work system has a 7 cart tape system (LTO4? 400-800gigs per tape), cloud, and we keep a tape offsite in case the office burns down... because it could happen.

I don't think there's an unlimited number of referrals.

feet of water, along with your server, due to a busted sprinkler head.
We do onsite and cloud backup. I was just asking about Dropbox, because I do not want to spend a ton of money backing up a BBS to a cloud. I do onsite backups currently, and will consider DropBox.
Thank you guys for all of the information!
well you can pay for commerical dropbox or just get a dedicated server from ovh
or another budget provider and do automated backups.
